  • Capital Markets is a division of Global Banking comprising the Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Structured Equity Finance (SEF), Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Leveraged & Acquisition Finance (LAF), Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS), Strategic Solutions Group (SSG), and Issuer Services (ISV)
  • This is a role reporting to the Head of Business Strategy & Risk, Capital Markets for the Americas
  • This role is responsible to support a key product vertical – DCM/CRS/SSG
  • This role will work with all product heads to facilitate the provision of timely and insightful business performance data that supports strategy execution, based on globally consistent metrics and data sources, and informed by local market dynamics and local geopolitical developments
  • This role will be responsible for tracking and supporting the various strategic initiatives in the US while ensuring a robust operational risk environment regionally, where the business operates in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations, ensure compliance with regulatory mandated local variances, and apply appropriate and effective governance frameworks
  • Ensure strategic alignment of investment in digital and transformation, effectively driving ROI outcomes promised by corresponding business cases
  • Support the adoption of globally consistent policies, procedures and practices, including the adoption of common IT systems working with the team
  • Promote a positive people agenda across Capital Markets, one that results in a culture and behaviors that embody HSBC’s purpose, values and conduct pillars
  • When required, the role will support engagement with regulators on behalf of Capital Markets, in full partnership with Regulatory Compliance and relevant Global Banking & Group colleagues
  • Focus on outcomes that promote a positive client experience, with a particular focus on ease-of-doing-business
  • Work with global, regional and country colleagues to build a collaborative culture that drives continuous improvement and business innovation, constructively challenging outdated and inefficient practices

 

Key responsibilities:

Strategy execution

  • Work with the regional and global CCO, WCOO and product teams, to align priorities to Global Banking’s core strategy and communicate the strategy regionally, across the Capital Markets team
  • Lead client experience and other transformation initiatives Regionally across Capital Markets with a focus on technology investment, process improvement and data management
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing further areas of impactful change
  • Support the execution of the strategy across Capital Markets
  • Monitor and report relevant developments relating to market dynamics, peers, benchmarks to help guide and further refine strategic execution, providing ongoing feedback to the global strategy team
  • Ensure strategic alignment of investment in digital and transformation, effectively driving ROI outcomes promised by corresponding business cases
  • Drive collaboration initiatives with selected Global Businesses
  • Ensure our strategy considers, and is aligned with, good conduct outcomes for our clients and the markets in which we operate
  • Work with the Capital Markets staffers in the management of the junior pool of resources
  • Work with HR and Recruiting in the approval of headcount and hiring

 

Business performance, analytics and management information

  • Responsible for monitoring Capital Markets business performance working closely with the team lead, including performance against the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), intensity measures and missed business process
  • Ensure effective and globally consistent application of business selection processes, pipeline line management and cross business collaborations
  • Responsible for the production of Capital Markets specific management information, working with Finance, leveraging globally consistent processes, metrics and data sources where available

 

Investment, Cost and Headcount Management

  • Support formulation of the Capital Markets regional AOP including revenue targets, workforce plan (FTE) and costs, in collaboration with the regional COS/COO teams
  • Contribute to the design, formulation and implementation of medium term and annual investment plans, across headcount, technology and other areas of investment

 

Operational risk and conduct

  • Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment regionally across Capital Markets to ensure good operational and financial management as well as compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution of issues that arise
  • Implement the risk and control standards for Global Banking, inclusive of applicable, GB & Group policies and controls
  • Oversee all first line of defense activities around Financial Crime Risk and Control, Conduct and Regulatory Compliance
  • Work closely with the Second and Third Line Functions regionally to ensure alignment in the implementation and enforcement of the risk and control framework
  • Lead on the delivery of the Conduct Agenda within Capital Markets regionally, working with the Banking COS/BSR/CCO partners, regions and Regulatory Compliance

 

Governance and business management

  • Maintain Capital Markets’ governance structures and ensure consistent application
  • Ensure effective governance structures and processes are in place across all products and regions for Capital Markets

  • Knowledge of Capital Markets preferred
  • Very strong analytical and presentation skills, with excellent grasp of PowerPoint / excel / word and ability to distil large quantities of information into key themes / issues. Follow up on recurring themes from the MI and identify solutions, which are followed through to conclusion
  • Ability to process high volumes of complex information and ability to summarize key themes and issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with capacity to work with senior teams and ability to interact at all levels of the organization
  • Be able to work effectively under pressure and with multiple stakeholders and willingness to go the ‘extra-mile’
  • Excellent English language capabilities both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, filter information and prioritize multiple demands
  • The role holder would benefit from experience in one or more of the following business lines; GB, CMB. Also, it would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of products and client propositions across these businesses
