Reporting to the Executive Director for the Stockton Wellness Center, the Associate Director of Learning Access Programs (LAP) serves as an integral member of the Stockton Wellness Center leadership team who serve a student community of nearly 10,000.

The Associate Director assists the Executive Director with leading and managing the Stockton Wellness Center by maintaining responsibility for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Learning Access Programs (LAP). Primarily, the Associate Director ensures that Stockton University students with documented disabilities receive appropriate and reasonable accommodations, consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the American with Disabilities Act, relevant NJ state legislation, and best practices in post-secondary education. Additionally, the Associate Director acts as a liaison between various constituents on campus (e.g., faculty, registrar, administration, students) with issues pertaining to disability and accommodation. The Associate Director is also the lead administrator in the Learning Access Programs office, thus is responsible for all aspects of its administrative functioning (e.g., personnel, budget).

  • Assist the Executive Director with the oversight, management and implementation of services for students with disabilities consistent with and informed by the units mission, vision, goals and data derived from quality improvement and assessment programs
  • Supervise the effective and timely provision of direct services to students with disabilities
  • Serve as a member of the Learning Access Program staff, providing students with disabilities with individual, walk-in and tele-communication services
  • Coordinate clinical case management services for students with disabilities
  • Supervise and train professional, support and graduate trainee staff and coordinate clinical service delivery
  • Review and interpret medical and psycho-educational test reports to determine eligibility for accommodations and/or services
  • Maintain confidential student documentation and records
  • Meet with prospective students and families in order to explain the nature of the services provided through the office
  • Act as liaison between students, faculty and registrar regarding accessible classroom changes and other issues pertaining to access
  • Coordinate process of accommodations for guests and others at large campus events (e.g., commencement, orientation)
  • Engage, mentor and train all staff to implement new initiatives, programs and services
  • Collaborate with campus partners in providing students with support services, educational outreach, training and referral sources for campus offices including but not exclusive to Residential Life, Dean of Students Office, Care and Community Standards, Campus Police, Academic Advising and Preceptors, Athletics and Recreation, Health Services, Educational Opportunity and Success Programs, Academic Affairs and faculty
  • Coordinate the Learning Access Program staffs training and utilization of technology-based resources including Titanium, the offices electronic medical records system (EMR); tele-counseling and psychoeducational resources (Therapist Assisted Online) and all web-based initiative for the department
  • Promote independent learning, self-advocacy skills, and leadership opportunities for students with disabilities at Stockton University
  • Maintain and update technologies used to deliver accommodations to students with disabilities
  • Maintain appropriate and complete documentation, records, and statistics with respect to these services
  • Assist the Executive Director in managing budgets for grants and the normal operation of the center and preparation of required annual and financial reports
  • Review and assess the delivery of all clinical services in an ongoing basis and engage team members in a continual quality improvement process to meet student needs
  • Develop and supervises Graduate Student training programs
  • Serve as a leader of the Stockton Wellness Center in the absence of the Executive Director
  • Demonstrate a continuous commitment to professional growth and development by participating in evidence-based professional training and educational programs, and participating in professional organizations that promote culture centered, multi-disciplinary, evidence-based care
  • Participate in divisional and university committees as needed. Flexible working hours to include evenings and weekends may be required
  • Maintain, and update as appropriate, departmental website and policy/procedure documentation
  • Provide training and programming to campus community regarding issues related to disability, accommodations, and access
  • Attend appropriate supervision, unit, divisional, and University meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of the Wellness Center, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for Health and Wellness and/or the Vice President for Student Affairs

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work or other related areas
  • Progressive professional work experience working with people with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
  • Knowledge of the application of laws and regulations pertaining to disability accommodations
  • Experience facilitating students access to accommodations (e.g. extended time, distraction reduced environment, screen readers, adaptive computers, etc.
  • Commitment to social justice and inclusive student success

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience providing administrative leadership for the delivery of services for students with disabilities in a college or university setting
  • In possession of relevant New Jersey State licensure or eligible to obtain New Jersey State licensure within 90 days of accepted employment
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language standards
  • Knowledge of and interest in involvement with national college/university professional associations focused on students with disabilities (e.g. Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD); New Jersey AHEAD, etc.)
  • Previous experience serving as a licensed counselor in a college or university
  • Prior experience with Distance Counseling/telehealth services

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must understand and manage confidential communication and information appropriately
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding diversity and multicultural issues in a clinical setting
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to student centered, culturally centered competence in the practice of providing services for students with disabilities, including a track record of past and recent evidence of involvement in graduate work, substantive professional development, and/or research efforts in this area
  • Clear evidence of an educational and/or clinical history of specialized training and skill development in the study and practice of serving students with disabilities such as graduate work and internship training
  • Previous experience in team building where the emphasis is on evidence-based practice; documented, consistent post graduate history of involvement in professional organizations and professional development activities
  • Knowledge and understanding of collaborative and hierarchical elements of communication in a college or university counseling center environment, a commitment to and understanding of the mission of the Stockton Wellness Center in relation to the broader University community strategic goals
  • Must plan effectively, manage ambiguity and assist with handling problem areas proactively
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and assume accountability
  • Must be committed to continuous improvement of processes, programs and services
  • Ability to initiate positive change
  • Willingness to participate in evening or weekend activities as needed
