As our Collateral Examination Manager, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for examining accounting records and verifies accounts receivable and inventory (our collateral) of asset-based/formula-based borrowers. The field examinations are conducted on-site at the customer’s place of business. Industry consultants are regularly employed, with oversight, to complete field examinations beyond the capacity of the unit’s internal staff. Collateral Examination has personnel in New York City, Buffalo and Las Vegas. Portfolios served include CMB/MME/GTRF and CSTF.

You will be responsible for

  • The pre-exam process
  • Participating in meeting and discussion groups.
  • Operational functions/continuing Ed/other.
  • Performing collateral exams when needed
  • Leading coaching and on-site training of less experienced personnel and new outside firms to develop quality professional field examiners.
  • Providing involvement/support in evaluating and monitoring problem credits; develop collateral control/monitoring procedures on troubled or bankruptcy/liquidation accounts. Participate in and/or coordinate pre-loan surveys and more complex work assignments to expedite completion of assignment and meet examination objectives
  • Leading and developing an effective team spirit through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
  • Review internal and external examiner field examination reports for compliance with established examination procedures and accuracy; ensure report narratives circulated to senior management accurately portray collateral position of selected borrower and appropriate disclosures relating to collateral exceptions, borrower management, information systems and account management are made. Make additional recommendations related to the examination or credit and monetary risk as appropriate.
  • Managing field staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency; resolve questions to ensure examiners meet objectives, including providing technical mentorship on application of procedures in specific situations. Consulting on and participate in ongoing review of the process to ensure field examiners are working with most effective format possible.
  • Control expenses, measure productivity and efficiency in individual examination assignments completed by internal staff or outside accounting firm staff. Ensure field examination assignments are completed in accordance with established cycles in accordance with department policy and respective credit approvals.
  • Implement the Group compliance policy locally by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.

  • Minimum of seven years proven and progressive formula-based lending field examination experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, related field or equivalent experience, including a minimum of two years of accounting plus one semester of cost accounting or equivalent.
  • Strong leadership, communications, analytical, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles and practices and detailed understanding and knowledge of Commercial Finance examination techniques.
  • Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software applications.
  • Certifications: CFE, CPA CFCF and AML a plus
