Upon resumption of normal operations, this role may be performed at our Buffalo, New York office.

  • Support risk stewardship and coordinate lines of business and functions to manage and align inputs from frontline teams, to support program oversight, reporting, and subsequent execution of activities.
  • Support the Head of Function with any ad hoc initiatives, reporting requirements, and delegation of activities as warranted.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure operational integrity and compliance with all related policies and procedures
  • Provide specialist knowledge and guidance
  • Ensure consistency of approach with Global teams, of quality of information presented and information reported
  • Formally report activities on a regular basis
  • Implement the Group policies, and highlight localization requirements where needed. Ensure adequate compliance resources and training, foster a compliance culture and optimize relations with regulators.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

Major Challenges

  • Ensuring that reviews are structured to articulate clearly the risks, how that meets risk appetite (or otherwise), the controls and mitigants that are in place (or need to be put in place), and actions executed.
  • Coordinating with other risk stewards to monitor, report, and mitigate risks presented by clients or activities undertaken by HSBC, as well as emerging risks and themes that could have an impact to HNAH and HSBC Group.

 

Role Context

  • Assist in consolidated AML and Tax Transparency oversight
  • Relevant non-financial risk and oversight, issues mgmt and read across or both US issues and global issues etc.
  • Review and challenge of management information, risk maps, as well as evolution of dashboard reporting where needed.
  • Ensure ongoing adherence with non-financial risk responsibilities across the broader program, including AML and TT Control Monitoring reviews for assigned “shared controls” as well as thematic risks of both a client and non-client nature.
  • Periodically review LOB Advisory controls/monitoring for consistency and appropriateness
  • Oversight and understanding of higher risk customer populations
  • Partner with LoB’s, Risk Stewards, and Operations teams to incorporate more defined SAR/Event Review and feedback loop –
    • Utilize MI for understanding risks and potential areas for redress
    • Informal sample reviews to ensure bank is learning from both individual events and developing trends
    • Incorporate findings into guidance for LOB Advisory/1LOD/FCR Ops to enhance trainings/procedures/controls
  • Demonstrate an ability to execute role with a level of autonomy while being mindful of when to seek guidance and approval

  • Comply with Group Compliance and Risk Policies
  • Adheres to HNAH’s Statement of Business Principles and Code of Ethics
  • Operation compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.,

  • HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • As appropriate for the role, ensures alignment with regulatory requirements, Risk and Compliance Policies, HNAH’s Enterprise Compliance Policy and Program, HNAH’s BSA/AML Policy, Anti-Tax Evasion, other Group policies and all related policies and procedures.

  • Strong analytical / technical skills to be able to understand and consolidate diverse and complex information and identify / mitigate risk issues
  • Strong communication skills to be able to distill and present views and complex information
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to build rapport and strong relationships across business areas and globally dispersed locations
  • Ability to coordinate within the global team as a key representative for the region.
  • Ability to remain effective under pressure
  • Be comfortable escalating decisions where appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of risk- not just financial crime risk but able to recognize other risks that a client, third party, process, or transaction may present to the institution with its various stakeholders
