ABOUT YOUTHCARE: YouthCare works to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential. Founded in 1974, YouthCare was one of the first programs to serve runaway and homeless youth on the West Coast. The goal was to help young people find safety today, and build a future for tomorrow. Over four decades, we’ve defined best practices and developed programs that are a national standard for excellence. Using a youth-centered approach, we ensure that young people experiencing homelessness ages 12-24 have the hope, skills, and confidence to gain long-term stability.

ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM: YouthCare’s Development Team provides youth and staff at YouthCare with the support and items young people need to get off the streets and prepare for life. The team is responsible for fundraising, community engagement, external communications, public policy work, volunteer and in-kind donation management, and much more!

POSITION SUMMARY:  YouthCare is seeking a strong, collaborative, and experienced fund development professional with experience leading multi-channel giving campaigns and ownership of a comprehensive development strategy. Under the supervision of the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Development leads the development and implementation a strategic relationship-centered development plan with current and potential YouthCare donors, leading the work necessary to cultivate and steward these relationships in order to attain yearly revenue goals. Areas of responsibility include oversight of comprehensive annual development strategy for annual fund campaigns, workplace giving, and special events. This position will also play a significant role in major gifts and capital campaign fundraising. This position will have two direct reports, and maintain responsibility for database management, reporting, and budget development and oversight.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design and execution of all annual appeal and campaign activities to meet agency goals in alignment with annual fundraising plan. Responsible for strategy development to grow annual fund, signature events, matching gifts, and workplace giving revenue.
  • Partner with the Development team to create goals, strategies and plans for annual development calendar, including detailed timelines and expense and revenue budgets that incorporate all forms of donor communication and acquisition, including direct mail, newsletters, annual reports, email, and website content.
  • Supervise Development Operations Manager, Event Manager, and Community Campaign Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development Operations Manager and Development team to leverage existing donor data to inform strategies to increase loyalty, depth, and authenticity of donor relations and private income.
  • Oversee stewardship efforts including timely acknowledgment and authentic gratitude practices that builds a loyal base of supporters eager to renew their contributions. 
  • Improve, maintain, and ensure proper management of systems that support the internal operations, logistics, and structure of the Development team.
  • Direct the annual luncheon event in collaboration with the Events Manager including developing strategy, Table Captain stewardship, Challenge Pool development to meet and exceed annual goals.
  • Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, the CEO, and the Development Team to support engagement of the Board of Directors, Development Committee, major donors, and major donor prospects in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and Community Campaign Manager in support of YouthCare’s 25M Community Campaign including donor engagement strategies, qualification and cultivation activities, and systems management. This position will be integrated into capital campaign activities and is expected to grow into an externally facing capital campaign role.
  • Responsible for creation and monitoring of the Development Department annual expense and revenue budget creation; ensure monthly reporting for the Development Department is accurate and in alignment with Finance Department.
  • Oversee and act as liaison with Finance Department for annual audit needs.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:          

  • 7-10 years related experience in a leadership role at a nonprofit organization in the area of fundraising, donor relations and/or events
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience
  • Understanding of the principles of fundraising and data analytics; experience managing appeals, campaigns, and implementing strategic donor engagement strategies
  • Understanding and commitment to principles and best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Extremely well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a busy environment
  • Creative, self-driven, curious, and proactive problem solver with comfort to perform a variety of duties
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with collaborative and transparent communication style
  • Excellent customer service skills to interact with board members, donors, volunteers, staff in a collaborative and sensitive manner.
  • Experience leading development operations, staff members, and managing CRM databases. Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge (or equivalent donor database experience); Proven word processing and overall computer expertise including MS Office, Power Point, Publisher, and an aptitude for learning new software programs. 
  • Experience and credentials must comply with program contract requirements including but not limited to DSHS background check and must be at least 21 years of age.
     

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with community members of varying backgrounds and experiences including vulnerable young people or young adults
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of Capitol Campaigns and large fundraising initiatives
