Job Summary
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion (KHP) within the College of Education at the University of Kentucky is seeking candidates for the George and Betty Blanda Endowed Professor in Education – Sport Leadership. George Blanda is an NFL Hall of Famer and record-holder, an alumnus of the University of Kentucky, and a former college and NFL quarterback and placekicker. 
 
 This tenured position requires a terminal degree in Sport Management/Administration/Leadership (Ph.D., Ed.D. or equivalent) or closely related field with a specialization in Sport Management/Administration/Sport Leadership. Applicants with a JD in Sport Law are also encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is a nine-month appointment. The search committee will begin reviewing applications immediately and will continue its review until the position is filled.  The University of Kentucky, the flagship university of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is home to more than 30,000 students and nearly 3,000 faculty members. Located in Lexington, the Horse Capital of the World, UK is a major employer in the small city of approximately 315,000.
 
 The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion (KHP), housed in the nationally ranked College of Education, is comprised of 22 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in the academic areas of exercise science, physical education, health promotion, and sport leadership. KHP serves as the academic focus for more than 900 undergraduate and graduate students seeking degree programs in the department. 

One of the department’s largest specializations at the master’s level is Sport Leadership. We anticipate the addition of an undergraduate degree program in Sport Industries in Fall 2023. 
 
 This position is in the Regular Title Series faculty category and requires the faculty member to teach 12 credits per year (two 3-credit hour courses each Fall and Spring Semester) in the Sport Leadership and anticipated Sport Industries programs. The Regular Title Series appointment requires the faculty member to also maintain an active program of scholarly research as well as engage in service-related activities. The position will also be expected to work collaboratively with Sport Leadership faculty to direct and develop the department’s newly formed Institute for Sport, Culture, and Commerce, which is committed to social justice issues in sport. Additionally, the qualified applicant will be required to encourage philanthropy, develop partnerships with other colleges on campus (Business, Law, Communications, etc.), and develop relationships with the University of Kentucky Athletic Department. The Blanda professor will be expected to serve on graduate student committees and mentor graduate student research.

Responsibilities
 
Pursue excellence in teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to teach a two-two course load consisting of undergraduate and graduate courses serving most of our Sport Leadership and anticipated Sport Industries majors. Candidates should be prepared to teach research methods and two courses in the following areas: sales, sponsorship, and fundraising in sport, ethics in sport leadership, planning and management of facilities for sport and fitness and global sport. There will also be opportunities for course development in the candidate’s area(s) of specialization.
 
The candidate would also be expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda with publications in top tier refereed sport management related journals; contributes to Sport Leadership graduate program and the proposed Sport Industries undergraduate program; collaborate internally and with external partners to develop the KHP Institute for Sport, Culture, Commerce with an emphasis on social justice issues in sport (e.g., grant writing, program planning, etc.); provide support and advice students across departmental undergraduate programs; provide service to the department, College, and University of Kentucky; and support community partnerships.
