Physical Requirements
The physical requirements of this position includes utilizing a computer workstation for extended periods of time with repetitive motion such as typing.
Shift
Primarily Monday through Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm with occasional nights and weekends per departmental needs.
Job Summary
This position will assign international classification of disease codes and/or CPT codes to all specialties of hospital outpatient visits; abstract data from the medical record and apply appropriate ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4 codes for billing, reporting, research and regulatory compliance; utilize 3M data abstraction, encoder and computer assisted coding software to complete coding and abstraction daily; and achieve daily productivity standards along with assuring national coding accuracy standards are met. This position will also be responsible for maintaining hospital quality and revenue cycle standards and respect at all times, the confidentiality of patients medical record information.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect patient, employee, and visitor safety, UK HealthCare is requiring all employees to comply with the COVID-19 vaccination policy prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of September 15, 2021, UK HealthCare requires all employees, including new hires prior to their first day of employment, to submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19 (i.e., two weeks past completing their complete COVID-19 vaccination series), or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal vaccine exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate must be proficient in IDC-9-CM and IDC-10-CM coding; knowledge of medical record abstraction and medical terminology (including anatomy and physiology); have the ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects while accurately completing routine functions in a fast paced, high intensity, professional work environment; proficient in Microsoft Office; excellent attention to detail; exceptional planning and organizational skill; effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to solve routine problems; demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service, time management, and judgment; and respect for confidentiality and diversity.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No
Preferred Education/Experience
Associate’s degree and two years of hospital inpatient coding experience. RHIT/RHIA certification preferred.
