The Space Test Engineer performs space system integration, readiness and requirements verification and validation activities as defined in a Program System Engineering Management Plan, and provides technical expertise in the development and execution of space vehicle and space Integration and Testing (I&T), space vehicle Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Test Readiness Review (TRR) and space vehicle verification reviews. The candidate participates in space vehicle and space/ground system I&T. Specific responsibilities include:
Support the Space Segment (SS) developer in space vehicle design, development, assembly, integration, and test.
Establish working relationships with the space segment developer, and attend and support reviews; track, assess, and advise on technical execution; and review critical technical documentation.
Ensure the space vehicles are completely interoperable from a mission data tasking, collection, storage, and communications perspective.
Support the space segment developer in accomplishing all integration and test activities required to ensure the space vehicle is integrated, tested, delivered, and supported.
Support the space segment developer testing external interfaces prior to shipping to the launch site.
Collaborate with all stakeholders including the space segment developer, and the ground segment developers to support system tests.
Coordinate with all segments and subsystems to demonstrate compatibility with communications systems prior to launch.
The Space Test Engineer prepares for and participates in space vehicle FAT, TRR and other verification reviews:
Support the space segment developer conducting FAT and TRR.
Support the space segment developer conducting a space vehicle FAT, testing the functionality, internal interfaces, and external interfaces.
Support the space segment developer in conducting a TRR prior to performing any tests used in final verification.
Support the space segment developer in conducting Verification Reviews.
Support and manage the ground developer in preparing for conducting an Operational Readiness Review to validate the GS readiness to support launch and post launch operations.
Support the space segment developer in conducting a space vehicle Pre-Ship Review for integration with the launch vehicle.
Support the Mission Readiness Review and Launch Readiness Review for launch.


Requires 12 to 15 years with BS/BA or 10 to 13 years with MS/MA or 7 to 9 years with Ph.D.

8 years of satellite experience with the verification, validation and testing of space/ground segment/systems engineering environments on ACAT 1 satellite programs
5 years of SE&I experience including space/ground architecture, requirements, IV&V, experiments, transition to operations
3 years of experience with integrating and testing new and emergent space/ground/infrastructure technologies and capabilities
